The last few miles until the Marathon

 The London Marathon

With the Marathon just a few weeks away, excitement and nerves are brewing in the Venue Search London offices as our lovely interns Holly and Jessica prepare to run 26.2 miles for charity.

Jess and Holly will both be running for two amazing causes- Holly is running it for Alzheimer's Research and Jessica for Make a Wish Foundation. Below they have summed up some golden nuggets of advice for anyone either running this year, or thinking about signing up in the future.

Jess & Holly's Top Marathon Tips:

1. Holly's most important piece of advice is,  "To enjoy the experience! Long runs can seem boring, so the best way to combat this is to add elements of fun. Try signing up for fun runs in the lead up to the event and buddy up with other runners so you can help motivate each other."

2. Jess is our tech whizz and swears by the various sports technology available on the market to help with training, "There is barely a run where I'll not be accompanied by my Tom Tom Runner 3 - I love it!"

3. 'Wear your charity shirt in the lead up to the Marathon" says Holly,  " I have worn it to every race I've taken part in before the Marathon- it's great to see how many people are running for the same cause and for the same reasons which is really motivating, it also a great conversation starter with other runners.'

4. If you are wondering what is the most important piece of equipment it's, "Trainers trainers trainers" emphasises Jess,  "Getting good supportive trainers is key. You don’t want to have to worry about blisters or foot problems because of bad trainers."

5. For those who are questioning their running abilities,  Holly's final piece of advice is, "Anyone can do it, so if your considering it just bite the bullet and sign-up. I wasn't a keen bean runner before I registered but this experience has been the motivation that I needed to get out and run."

6. And if you just need some support to get through, Jess's final nugget of advice is to talk to others in the same boat, "It really helps talking to other people who have either experienced it before or are currently going through the same as you. I have learnt a lot from listening to others."

So here's to Holly and Jess and all the other runners out there undergoing months of training and raising money in prep for their London Marathon experiences. Venue Search London wishes the best of luck to everyone taking part in this inspirational day.
