Not So Far Away-Days

Friday 19 May 2017

 Micklefield Hall

With summer on our doorstep, many central London organisations are looking for venues where they can stage summer conferences, team building or away days that are outside the concrete jungle, but do not involve too much travel time or costs.

Greater London is blessed with a wide range of summer party and event venues that have a strong countryside feel and plenty of outside space for alfresco drinks receptions and activities.

Taking your team out of central London for a party or conference often delivers a greater and more lasting impression, together with putting them in a very different environment that can benefit “blue sky thinking”.  These venues also offer great opportunities to break up a conference agenda or start a summer party with team games or fun team building activities in the surrounding parkland or grounds.

Here are some of our favourite events venues located away from the smog, but within the M25, all with good train or tube links back to the city centre:

Micklefield Hall

This charming private house with adjoining barn near Rickmansworth is surrounded by acres of secluded parkland, making it the perfect environment for larger family fun days, off-road driving events and team building events.  The house itself has a range of reception rooms available for off-site meetings and dinners for up to 30 guests.

The Conservatory at Painshill

Set in its own walled garden, this year-round events structure near Cobham in Surrey has hosted many successful summer parties and conferences for 100-300 guests.  The venue is fully produced with coloured lighting, PA system and dance floor, with a deck overlooking the gardens, where a range of summer games including croquet, summer sports days and team games can be added to any event.

Ham Polo Club

Just eight miles from the centre of London, Ham Polo Club in leafy Richmond is available for corporate hire throughout the summer months.  The Clubhouse is at the heart of the Club, which also has an adjoining marquee for larger events over the summer months.  And if you are feeling brave, they also offer introductory polo lessons amongst a range of outdoor activities available.

Kenwood House

With stunning views of Hampstead Heath and the City beyond, Kenwood House is set in secluded grounds overlooking is famous lake. The Orangery can cater for receptions and dinners for up to 100 guests, with the option of a bespoke marquee for larger events.  The Music Room and Old Kitchen provide additional meeting and event space within one of English Heritage’s most beautiful properties.

Bank of England Sports Centre

Located just a mile from Putney, this is the most accessible of our favourite summer away-day venues.  For those looking to organise a company sports day, this is the perfect setting offering superb facilities for a traditional range of activities including lawn tennis, cricket, boules, croquet, badminton, rounders, 5-a-side football, tug of war, snooker and table tennis.  The main Clubhouse also offers excellent conference and dining spaces.
