It’s not often that one is excited by the prospect of waking an hour earlier than usual but last week, that was exactly how we felt as with gym kits in hand the team headed to Banqueting House (one of the Historic Royal Palaces) for a pre-work yoga session. (photo by Miles Willis Photography)

When we arrived at the Main Hall, the space was laid out with yoga mats and bottled water and a smoothie station was in full swing offering a choice of 3 healthy smoothies as a pre- work out refreshment. The green one seemed the obvious choice and once finished it was time to begin.

With her calm and soothing voice the instructor led us through a fun and accessible yoga workout. As I laid in one of the various yoga poses looking up at the Rubens (the painted ceiling named after its artist), I thought of the royals of the past who had frequented this very hall. I’m sure Henry VIII would have been shocked at the thought, that over 400 years later a group of ‘commoners’ would be taking in the very same surroundings, while pulling a downward dog position.

The session lasted about 30 minutes and was followed by a delicious breakfast by caterers 'Food by Dish' of smoked salmon, bacon and avocado on toast, fresh fruit pots, pastries and more.  

After the session, feeling refreshed, we headed back to the office to begin our day. There was no doubt that it had lifted everyone’s mood and as I almost skipped back to the office I reflected on what a great way it was to start the day.
