This week VSL were filled with excitement ahead of a very special afternoon visit to the world-renowned Nobu London Portman Square. Nestled in the heart of London's prestigious Portman Square, this iconic London hotel venue offers a truly exceptional escape, in the busy bustle of central London.
As soon as you step inside the hotel, you're greeted by an atmosphere of refined luxury. From the striking architecture to the contemporary interiors, every aspect of the venue has been designed to contribute to an atmosphere of chic, modern elegance with subtle Asian touches throughout.
As part of our site visit, VSL were lucky enough to experience a once-in-a-lifetime sushi making masterclass; preparing sushi in the magnificent restaurant at Nobu. Seated at the sushi bar with a direct view over the kitchen pass. Up to 10 people can take part in the intimate demonstrations, making it an ideal activity for a special, private event.
We definitely looked the part and became fully engrossed with the traditional techniques and Itamae (also known as sushi chefs), as we put on our aprons, gloves and began immersing ourselves in the art that is sushi making! Delectable fresh seafood and vegetables were used to make 4 different types of sushi; Urumaki, Temaki, Maki and Nigiri, all of which are legendary Nobu specialties. The Chef’s gave thorough instructions on how to prepare each sushi piece and carefully guided us through the steps to ensure the perfect pieces were produced each time. Due to the freshness, quality, and deliciousness of all the ingredients, it was quite tempting to snack during the experience! Although it’s safe to assume that none of the VSL team will be an Itamae any time soon, but all-in-all we all had a spectacular time.
Following on from our sushi-making-masterclass, we were invited to see the restaurant's private dining section, which was curtained off from the main dining room yet maintained all of the charm and ambience. The whole team adored this space and agreed it would be an excellent location for a special private dining occasion, accommodating up to 28 guests.
Nobu features a handful of other contemporary, stylish and carefully curated event spaces. The Grand Ballroom, with its high ceilings and expansive windows, provides a breath-taking backdrop for any occasion with a capacity of 700 for a reception, 400 for a sit-down dinner and 256 cabaret style. The adjoining pre-function area offers a stylish setting for networking and cocktail receptions, allowing for seamless flow from one space to the next. Whether you're hosting a corporate conference, a lavish drinks reception, or a high-end product launch, this versatile space can be transformed to suit your vision and needs.
In-built AV is very much present within the event spaces, with the option for a hybrid event made extremely simple, due to having built in cameras already set up. The space can be transformed with dazzling lights and production, adding to the already exquisite Ballroom.
The smaller boardrooms are also quite impressive, offering a contemporary working space with well-finished details, perfect for breakout rooms or perhaps an organisers office.
The accommodation offerings at Nobu include premium feel entry-level suites right up to The Nobu Penthouse, with various alternative bedroom styles available in between. As you make your way around the 249 bedrooms, you can’t help but notice the entrancing aromas that delicately fill the corridors, this wonderful sensory touch was noticeable throughout the property.
VSL were fortunate enough to view the Nobu Penthouse. This room is an incredibly impressive space with exquisitely distinctive elements, including a sizable dining table, sofas, wonderfully high ceilings, and an incredibly spacious bedroom. A walk-in wardrobe and gorgeous bathroom are also features of the penthouse, both of which come with plush robes and the option to wear a Yukata robe, to complete the bedroom.
