Diary of an Intern... My First Month at VSL

Friday 29 July 2016

Sunset Safari at London Zoo Cocktail Masterclass at The Fable

From working on briefs for large conferences, Christmas parties and small VIP dinners, to assisting on a summer event at the Natural History Museum for 900 guests, no day is ever the same in the Venue Search London and Story office! Jess Lishman, our newest member tells us about her first month interning for VSL.

Currently studying Events Management at Bournemouth University, Jess has joined us as part of her year's placement in the industry, and having only been here for a month she has got stuck in and embraced the craziness of Venue Search London and the events industry, and all the perks that come with it.

"There is no typical day at Venue Search London. I could be helping the team on a brief for a gala dinner one minute, to putting a creative proposal and quote together for a Christmas party for 500 guests the next, as well as being involved in the marketing and advertising side of the business too. I've even been developing my DIY skills, hammering nails into the office wall, all in a day's work when you're an intern at Venue Search London! I have also worked on a variety of events, from a small treasure hunt around the City, a large conference and team building event just outside of London and my personal favourite, a Summer Ball for a whopping 900 guests at the iconic Natural History Museum, which was something special!

Although we're mostly office based, we do like to get out of the office, visiting new and interesting venues. My fear of lifts was soon conquered when I was travelling 38 levels to the top of the Gherkin, a definite wow moment when we got to see the incredible views over the city! I was even lucky enough to be invited on a Sunset Safari at London Zoo, where we got to explore and enjoy a few cheeky cocktails of course.

I can honestly say that I have learnt so much in my first month of my internship, and I still have another 11 months to go! So, 31 venues, 23 missed trains, 7 live events, 2 cocktail masterclasses, too many proposals to count, and endless glasses of Prosecco later… I have the best internship in the world!"
