The UK's lockdown is beginning to ease, many bars and restaurants remain closed whilst offering collection and delivery options. As the Events and Hospitality industries remain closed, many have started to look at putting policies in place to ensure guests are safe when they are able to reopen.

As we remain hopeful and look forward to a time where events are able to get back up and running some of our venues have already begun to let us know what they will be doing to reduce Covid-19 being transmitted and ensuring safety for delegates.

Here are 5 key policies / practices we believe we will see be implemented in events and venues across the UK.

1. Cleaning

ETC venues have released their “18 point plan” which highlighted the measures they would be putting in place, which included cleaning. They will be working in collaboration with Cleanology, a premier cleaning specialist. They have also said that each venue will be audited by Navitas, a Covid control scheme. Marriott also shared their “meet smart, meet safe” which outlined enhancing cleaning as well as ensuring restrooms would be sanitised as often as every hour.

2. Training

This is something we will see more and more from venues and events teams. ETC have said all their will be fully trained on new hygiene as well as social distancing measures. All teams will be supplied with the latest PPE equipment and trained how to use them.

3. Social Distancing

As we still await the official guidelines for event venues, Marriott have said they will be looking to reduce seating capacity by at least 50%. They will be looking at their furniture spacing as well as utilising any outdoor space where possible. ETC have also outlined their plans which includes 25% more room free of charge as well as options to upgrade to larger spaces. Social distancing signage will also be key to event venues, this is already something we have seen being implemented in our supermarkets and local park.

4. Technology

Technology has been key during lockdown for many different industries and it’s going to be very important for event venues moving forward. ETC will be offering video conferencing in their training rooms as standard and partnering with experts to create hybrid events. Marriott outlined in their plan to utilise technology to reduce contact in key areas, for example; mobile check in, event registration, attendee badging.

5. Food

There will be a lot of changes to meals and breaks within London event venues. This will mainly include pre packed food options with “grab and go” style meals. Marriott also outlined that they will be setting meals and breaks in specific reserved spaces for that event, meaning delegates will not be mingling with guests from other events. ETC also outlined a similar approach with bento box style meals.

It’s likely more policies and guidelines will soon be released but hope to help give you an indication of what event venues will look like post Covid-19.
