Planning a conference in London often means balancing big ambitions with a smaller footprint. At BMA House, we believe you should not have to compromise on either. Celebrating 100 years in 2025, it evolves for tomorrow's meetings...

A Grade II listed landmark in Tavistock Square, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and home to the British Medical Association since 1925, BMA House marked its 100th anniversary in 2025 and continues to evolve for the next century of meetings.

Our sustainability approach is built into the way we host conferences, from the energy behind the scenes to the food on the plate. We run on 100% renewable grid electricity, have introduced LED and motion-sensitive lighting throughout the building, and have reduced gas usage by 22% year on year through efficiency upgrades. A Thames Water audit also helped us identify improvements that reduce water use by 5.4 million litres each year.

Waste is tackled with the same focus. We hold a Zero Waste to Landfill certification, have eliminated plastic water bottles from venue catering, and provide clearly labelled recycling points across public areas and meeting rooms to make it easy for delegates to do the right thing.

Food is often the biggest influence on an event’s carbon footprint, so we have redesigned our catering to cut waste and keep quality high. Our hot fork buffet set menus help us plan more accurately, which has reduced waste while giving clients clear, seasonal options. We also offer a menu mix that is 73% vegetarian and or vegan, remove high impact red meat items, provide non-dairy milk as standard, and serve filtered water bottled on site in reusable BMA House bottles.

For organisers who want to go a step further, we offer a bespoke event carbon calculator, free to clients, that estimates emissions across areas such as food, travel, accommodation, and waste, then provides practical recommendations so you can track progress over time.

And because sustainable conferences are also about how people arrive and recharge, our central location supports public transport, we promote a Clean Air Walking Route with 57% less air pollution from King’s Cross, and we provide EV charging plus bike facilities on site.
