6 venues and theatres supporting #LightItInRed action for the UK events industry

You might remember back in April when Venue Search London shared with you the venue and landmarks around the UK which were illuminated blue for #lightitblue in support of the NHS and carers during Covid-19.
Back in July, we wrote about venues across the UK which took part in the #LightItInRed campaign, this week (11th August 2020) it was back again bigger than ever. Along with the hashtags #WeMakeEvents and #RedAlert over 300 venues across the country turned their lights red to highlight the crisis the live events industry is facing.
A million jobs are estimated to be at risk within the events industry which at the time did not have a start date provided by the Government. This time round it seemed more and more venues had joined in, with the aerial shot of London's skyline quite remarkable.
The action was initiated by Steven Haynes from Clearsound Productions and Phillip Berryman from The Backstage Theatre Jobs forum, in order to draw attention to the UK live event and entertainment industry, which unlike other industries has no set date for live events, shows, etc to restart following four months of closure.
The #LightItInRed action was inspired by #NightofLight in Germany in June, which saw over 9000 buildings, monuments, structures, tower and landmarks illuminated in "emergency red" to raise awareness and grab attention.

4. Hackney Empire

Reopened in 2021 as an event and conference space, the iconic London venue hosts over 150 events a year.
2. Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage
Glastonbury was due to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary this summer, but was forced to cancel due to Covid-19. The original Pyramid stage started off as a cow shed in 1971 and has since grown into the huge stage we know and love, it was inspired by Pyramid of Giza in Egypt!
3. National theatre
They have been streaming live plays and content during lockdown on The National Theatre are streaming live plays every Thursday on Youtube.
4. Almeida Theatre
During lockdown the Almeida has been keeping the memory of the theatre alive through it’s new series of podcasts.
The venue originally opened in 1873 but was rebuilt in 1875 following a destructive fire. The redesigned Palace reopened in May 1875 and included; concert hall, theatre, circus, racetrack, boating lake and extensive dining.
6. The Royal Albert Hall
Opened in 1871 by Queen Victoria, although it’s better known for it’s musical events, it also hosted fight nights. One of which included the notorious Kray twins who to centre stage for a boxing match in 1951. This makes the Krays the only two people in history to have performed at Albert Hall and been imprisoned in the Tower of London.
