Step into the past this festive season with our guide to five historic London venues perfect for a Christmas party. From grand halls to London icons, these timeless settings bring vintage sparkle to your celebrations.

There’s something undeniably magical about celebrating Christmas in a venue steeped in history. London, with its centuries-old architecture and rich cultural heritage, offers a host of iconic settings perfect for festive gatherings. Whether you’re looking for grandeur, charm, or a touch of Dickensian nostalgia, historic venues deliver an atmosphere that’s impossible to replicate.

Imagine dining beneath gilded ceilings in a Georgian ballroom or sipping mulled wine in a centuries-old inn once frequented by literary greats. These venues combine timeless elegance with character, offering not just a space but an experience. Many have been lovingly restored, blending period features with modern comforts—think roaring fireplaces, candlelit halls, and beautifully decorated trees that evoke the spirit of Christmas past.

From livery halls in the heart of the City to Tudor manors tucked away in leafy corners, each historic venue has a story to tell. They provide a memorable backdrop for both intimate gatherings and lavish celebrations, often with in-house catering, entertainment, and even Choirs to add to the festive charm.

Choosing a historic venue isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating a celebration your guests will never forget. In a city where history is always just around the corner, why not let it be part of your Christmas?

Tower of London

This large and elegant brick building was built in 1663 for the Board of Ordnance, a British government body created in the 15th century to design, test and produce armaments and munitions. The New Armouries was created as a store for military equipment and supplies after the recall of Civil War arms.

This versatile space is suited for Christmas parties, banqueting events, corporate conferences or any festive celebration. Working alongside some of London's most prestigious caterers, you have the freedom to curate your perfect historical Christmas party.

The National Gallery

As one of the best loved art galleries in the world, the National Gallery is a true icon of the capital. With twenty two event spaces, that are available for daytime and evening events, the National Gallery is ideal for a range of corporate events, with Christmas parties in a truly historic setting. Why not enhance your event by engaging one of the art history experts on site, who can provide a guided tour for your guests and truly immerse them in the historic surroundings.

HMS Belfast

Hiring the HMS Belfast for an historic Christmas party is a unique and prestigious opportunity that offers an unforgettable experience for attendees. As a famous naval warship with a rich history, the HMS Belfast provides a one-of-a-kind backdrop that adds a sense of grandeur and distinction to any occasion. The HMS Belfast is permanently docked on the River Thames in London, making it easily accessible and centrally located for guests. Christmas parties aboard the HMS Belfast benefit from the ship's stunning views of London's iconic landmarks, such as Tower Bridge, The Shard, and the City skyline. The unique setting creates an immersive atmosphere, transporting guests back in time while providing modern amenities for a comfortable and sophisticated event.

Banqueting House

Banqueting House is a versatile and inspiring event space that can accommodate up to 500 guests for a standing reception. The venue was created for entertaining in 1622, and offers two main spaces, including the Main Hall and the Undercroft. Spacious enough to accommodate large events yet still appropriate for smaller celebrations, the venue provides wonderful acoustics and magnificent pillars soaring toward one of the world's great masterpieces, Ruben's ceiling. They knew how to party in the 17th Century and it continues to this day. The Stuart Kings occasionally used the Undercroft to escape public life. It was often used for gambling during the reign of Charles II, an diarist John Evelyn described one unlucky evening in 1664 where he, as well as 'the King, Queen-Consort and Queen Mother', won "only a trifle".

Tower Bridge

Choose from the high-level Walkways, the atmospheric Victorian Engine Rooms, or hold a smaller more exclusive reception in the North Tower Lounge. The high-level Walkways span the North and South Towers of the Bridge and are located 42 metres above the Thames. They offer stunning panoramic views of London with the Docklands and Greenwich to the east and the Tower of London, St Paul’s, the City and the Monument to the west. Hired exclusively, the Walkways will allow you and your guests to witness the transforming skyline as the sun sets over London.
