There’s something about Q1 that invites a reset. Plans sharpen, teams want momentum, and formats get braver. At the Barbican, that early-year energy plays out best when you think beyond a single room and treat the Centre as a connected campus.

Yes, the Barbican Hall remains the ideal space for big moments, and there is helpful Q1 availability for those looking for something special in February and March, but it’s the way the Hall links with the rest of the venue that’s driving smarter events. We’re seeing morning plenaries that flow straight into curated “tracks” across our Frobisher Rooms and auditoria, with Cinemas hosting fast, filmic talks and screenings that make content stick. The foyers, with their natural footfall, become living showcases for exhibitions and partner activations that feel part of the day rather than bolt-ons.

Clients, such as the recent World Design Congress are also rethinking the pace of their events. Instead of long, linear days, they’re designing pulses: 40-minute hits in a cinema, a debate staged in-the-round, then small-group working in adjacent spaces, no dead time, just a short walk and you’re onto the next idea. The advantage of an arts centre such as the Barbican is the creativity that comes built-in, whether it is through the infrastructure and design of the building and spaces or the artistic programme that can be used on support of private events.

Clients are mixing seated and standing formats, building micro-environments that make 20–60 guests feel considered, not squeezed, while still benefiting from the campus flow around them.

In short: whether you’re convening hundreds or a core twenty, Q1 is the moment to choreograph a day that starts bold, moves nimbly and finishes memorably.
